Not only is the Adeler family consistently an integral part of the Washington charitable community by giving back and donating lovely jewels (Jorge and his daughter Wendy are everywhere offering their time and their fine pieces) but they have a truly unique story to tell, all starting from Jorge himself. Thanks to Wendy Gordon of Flash Communications for this media release about the Mother’s Day Brunch at Hudson. May 11th is Mother’s Day! You need to get your gifts and make reservations … don’t forget!
Les Bon Temps Rouler This Mother’s Day - Hudson Offers a Taste of the Crescent City
Forget the crescent roll. THIS Mother’s Day, Hudson treats Mom to a taste of the Crescent City. Sure, Chef Ryan Arnold the restaurant will offer brunch favorites including house-made corned beef hash served with two poached eggs and toast ($11), Scrambled Eggs with Salmon and Leeks served with toasted bagel and whipped cream cheese($12)or a Spa Omelet-egg white omelet with tomatoes, peppers & asparagus tips, whole wheat toast ($12) and French toast, pancakes or Belgium waffles with a choice of five toppings ($11) to dishes such as Hudson’s chopped salad with a choice of main ingredient ($11-$18), a variety of brick-oven-baked pizzas ($11-$15), a steaming bowl of matzoh ball soup ($7) and a variety of sandwiches and burgers ($11-$15). But this Mother’s Day, Chef Ryan Arnold adds a little touch of Bourbon Street. NOLA inspired dishes include eggs Sardou–poached eggs, artichoke hearts, crabmeat and creamed hollandaise ($18); grits and grillades–cheesy southern style grits with scallopines of pork and veal ($18); polenta stack–grilled polenta cakes with spicy Andouille sausage, shrimp, roasted red peppers in goat cheese fondue luscious crepes Suzette as it was meant to be with brandy and orange infused syrup ($14); classic bananas Foster–Bananas, brown sugar and rum served over freshly made crepes ($16) and a hearty and delicious sweet potato bread pudding complete with whiskey sauce and sweet potato ‘haystacks’ ($9).
But what’s a little N’Awlens without all that Jazz? Every Sunday including Mother’s Day, Hudson features the jazz stylings Marshall Keys and Harold Kaufman. Having jammed on the saxophone with the likes of Stevie Wonder and Groove Holmes, Keys wails with Kaufman, tickles the ivories. Together, these two cats bring Hudson’s weekly brunchers and Mother’s Day revelers a tasty treat for the ears.
And of course, one must consider the smart adult beverage. No doubt Mom could use one. Mixologist John Hogan has also put his own special twist on traditional brunch libations including the Original Bellini is mixed with fresh white peach puree, 365 Prosecco di Valdobbiadene and peach bitters; the Mimosa Hudson, also made with 365 Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, cointreau, fresh pressed orange juice and orange bitters; and the Southwestern Bloody Mary with brick oven-roasted chipotle infused bloody mary mix and Tito’s vodka. There is also the Grapefruit Martini, shaken with absolut ruby red grapefruit vodka, fresh ruby red grapefruit juice, grapefruit syrup, served up with grapefruit “air”. Guests can also warm up with hot potent potables such as their Irish Coffee, mixed with jameson irish whiskey, hot coffee, fresh whipped cream and a drizzle of green crème de menthe, or the Hudson Hot Cocoa, made with ghiradelli hot chocolate, and peppermint schnapps, topped with fresh whip cream and peppermint flakes.

The Washington whirlwind weekends continue
3 Comments »
This weekend was the Cinderella Ball for the Washington Ballet (by the way, the performance of Cinderella can be seen at the Warner Theatre May 7-11, so get your tickets now), as well as other various parties on Friday evening including a celebration for our Nationals at K Street Lounge, and sticking with the sports theme, the Capitol Olympics fete on the rooftop of the Charlie Palmer building which was held by Michael Saylor. This was a serious security event - no one was allowed in without an athletic outfit - no exceptions - and entrance was expedited by a cool medal made specifically for the party.
Some who were way worn out from whooping it up Friday night into Saturday morning didn’t make it to any of the White House Correspondents Association Dinner festivities, but some of us got to see the gorgeous views atop 701 Pennsylvania Ave. while supporting Voto Latino with Rosario Dawson (who by the way, looks even more beautiful in person). Then it was off to the most inspiring, well choreographed and executed dance performance I may have ever laid eyes upon. The Capitol Movement Project did their Third Annual concert at the Lisner Auditorium and the dancers received a standing ovation that seemed to last forever and it was more then well deserved. Then it was off in the rain to the Capitol File Magazine After Party at the Newseum, where the guests got to hob nob with Craig Ferguson, LC (Lauren Conrad of “The Hills”), her arch nemesis Heidi Montang, Perez Hilton, Rosario Dawson, Dennis Hof (of the HBO Show “Cathouse” - yikes!), Tim Daly and many more. Did I mention the potty mouth - and I mean this mouth needs to get scrubbed with Lysol disinfectant - on Ashlee Simpson’s now fiance’ DJ and Fall Out Boy bassist Peter Wentz? I do not think DC was ready (nor ever will be) for the outrageous verbiage he yelled out over the mic, and even Jason Binn, Niche Media CEO and Main Host, asked Wentz to shout out an apology for his potty mouth. No Orbit gum would take the dirt out of this guy’s mouth. The music was excellent though, so while many forgave him for his raucous behavior, there was no forgetting.
This is just a quick summary of a very full weekend. Please have patience while the Punch puts together a more detailed account with great pictures of each event. In the meantime, don’t forget to hit L2 for the Many Hats fundraiser on Wednesday evening as well as the Terra Boutique event the same night. This week and coming weekend looks to be jammed pack again, so much more to come!

The following post about the 2008 Capital Hospice Passion for Caring Gala, was submitted to the Punch by Caroline Kuo, Manager of Special Events for Capital Hospice.
A bright and sunny day greeted guests as they walked up the driveway to the beautiful home of Jeff and Shelley Hilber. The philanthropic couple recently hosted a kickoff party for the 2008 Capital Hospice Passion for Caring Gala: Argentina and its Passions. The famed event will be held on Saturday, October 4th for 800 guests at the historic National Building Museum in DC.
Anyone who is anybody within the charity social circuit attended the kickoff in support of Capital Hospice and gala chair, Wendy Adeler Hall, of Adeler Jewelers in Great Falls. On the invite list were representatives from BB&T, Gannett, PricewaterhouseCoopers, ITT, Bacardi and XO Communications.
Ridgewells catered the evening and set the festive mood with a true Argentinean spread that was as delightful looking as it was delicious! With the “taste” in their minds and expectations high, guests can now look forward to an authentic Asado at historic Spring Brook Farm in Waterford, VA, graciously hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Jorge Adeler on Sunday, May 18.
Kicking off the evening, Malene Davis, CEO of Capital Hospice, thanked supporters by the likes of Annie Totah, Bob Okun, Ricardo Villanueva and Sue and Timothy Albrecht. With a guest list like that, the evening leant itself to the beginning of a gala of which you’ll want to see and be seen.
Thank you to Caroline for this post and to Wendy Adeler Hall for taking on the position of Gala Chairwoman. For more information on the event, please go to http://www.capitalhospice.org/support/events/gala.asp.

Once Upon A Prom Dress Drive today and tomorrow - Volunteers and Dresses needed!
Ladies, spend about 10 minutes today digging in the back of one of your many closets to pull out any old formalwear you know you won’t ever put back on. They may have lived in your wardrobe for a few years, but be kind and give them a new home where they will truly be appreciated.
Today (Friday) from 1pm-5pm and Saturday from 9am-5am, you can drop them off to the ladies and volunteers of Once Upon A Prom {501 (c) (3)} at the Maya Angelou Public Charter School which is located at 5600 E. Capitol Street, NE. These young high school girls will truly thank you as their prom is right around the corner. Don’t have a dress to deliver? Check donations are always welcome. The group does need volunteers out there collecting dresses, donations and setting up, so please contact katie@washingtonlife.com to help out - thank you for giving your time.
For more information on how to get involved with Once Upon A Prom please go to: http://www.onceuponaprom.org/getInvolved.html The little bangle bracelet makes a sweet gift and wearing several of them together is always an eye-catcher.
