The week in preview…

This week make sure to attend the Mark T. Smith Olympic art signing at Teatro Goldoni on Tuesday the 20th starting at 9pm.  For dinner reservations, please call 202.955.9494.  Wednesday evening it’s back to Georgetown for the Capitol File Magazine "Spring Fling" at Intermix on M Street.  Do-gooding fashionistas in need of some new apparel will be happy to know that 10% of the revenue brought in that night will go to the Washington Humane Society’s Fashion for Paws.  On that note, it’s almost June.  Have you purchased your Bark Ball ticket yet?  You can rsvp to the Intermix event at rsvp@intermixny.com.  The event goes from 7pm-9pm and P.S., you will get a fun gift bag, cocktails, sushi and take part in a raffle.  What more could a girl want?

The fashion parade doesn’t end on Wednesday night (does it ever end?).  Thursday of course is the Current Boutique Fashion Show - I am the proud MC for this fun event.  Today, I had the luck to hear Mo, the awesome singer who will entertain guests that evening.  She is just a gem and I cannot wait for the crowd to go wild for her voice and of course for the darling outfits and dresses to grace the catwalk from Current Boutique. The cocktail hour starts at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm.  There is a $10 suggested donation for the DC Fashionista Foundation.  Please rvsp to carmen@currentboutique.com.

Sadly, we say good-bye to the effervescent, always smiling (and always tan and beautiful) Maria Trabocchi.  Appropriately, her farewell party will be held at Fly Lounge, as she is leaving us and flying to Europe.  Thanks for the great times Maria and please come back and visit … or else we will have to fly to Italy to find you!

There are lots of parties and events this week - if you are on Facebook, your calendar is no doubt filled to the rim.

Bon Anniversaire …

… to Cynthia de Lorenzi, Founder and President of the women’s entrepreneur and leadership group, Success in the City, who by the way, are well known for the fun they have too.  Speaking of great women in leadership, birthday wishes go out to the gorgeous Rima Bitar, who is co-Chairing the upcoming CARE Gala with her husband Dr. George Bitar

Charlie Thomas celebrated his birthday with a few hundred of his closest friends at Skye Lounge then disappeared before the cake came out.  Too bad, that cake was darn good.

(Pictured below: Whitney Cole, personal trainer to the stars of DC and Charlie … maybe that’s why he didn’t eat the cake! He had to work out the next morning with Whitney?  and yes … the infamous cake)

Weekend Friendly Reminders….

The weekend birthday party parade is here. Tonight, Charlie Thomas, serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and globe trotting bachelor will be celebrating with his friends at Skye Lounge, Steve Andronico, the man to know if you want something done at the City Tavern Club (or a great home made dinner on Sunday night) will be partying with a live band, the Winn Brothers, at the CTC, and Krista Johnson of WeOneYouTwo, and friends will be taking up space at The Space on Saturday night.

For folks who love a good old fashioned Asado, Wendy Adeler of Adeler Jewelers, who is Chairing the upcoming Capital Hospice Gala "Argentina and Its Passions", will be hosting one with her parents in Waterford, VA this Sunday.  There will be tons of pictures to share from that experience … although, I personally will be sticking with the veggies and cheeses that day.  Hope they bring lots of Malbec!

Tonight is also the launch of iBoard at UltraBar.  iBoard is positioned to be the wave of the future in digital display advertising, so more to come on this cool concept!

Don’t forget to mark you calendar for Thursday May 22nd at 7pm for the Current Boutique Fashion Show upstairs at Gua Rapo (Nena) in Arlington.  Please RSVP to carmen@currentboutique.com.  See you on the runway …

Sinatra Leaves His Stamp on Life

Hudson Restaurant and Lounge was full of rats last night.  Well, Rat Packs that is.  The place was booming, literally, with the live music of Joker’s Wild, the local Sinatra/swinging/crooning band who makes one long for the simple days of yesteryear.  Martinis were being gulped down by the patrons who came to listen to the tunes, watch a few old Frank baby flicks and appearances, and celebrate the man with the voice and the very blue eyes.  The comemmorative $.42 stamp with his tan mug on it was created to honor the 10th anniversary of his passing.

How did this crooning creature get on the stamp?  Can you believe that 50,000 proposals are given to the USPS for new stamps yearly?  Sinatra happened to be one of them, and guess what, he won.  He was one out of 20 who were selected for 2008.  The stamps went on sale on Tuesday in New York, Las Vegas (his favorite haunt) and Hoboken, NJ, where he was born.  For the rest of us, we can go to http://shop.usps.com/wcsstore/PostalStore/upload/htm/sinatra/ to buy them online.

Thanks to Peter Mirijanian Public Relations for bringing this event to Hudson and honoring one of the best entertainers of the 20th century.

Come Fly … Come Fly Lounge away with me …

My time flies when you are in the cockpit of a successful lounge/club in Washington, DC and have a great loyal following of patrons. Fly Lounge celebrated its Two Year Anniversary Wednesday evening with an intimate group of friends and family.  While many lounges and clubs tend to peter out after the first year in this city, especially with all of the new establishments opening early and often, Fly has continued to keep its silver doors open and the cash flowing in.  Their recipe for success has been a mix of great DJ’s, various promoters, a cool unique decor (like the inside of a plane … ok, you do have to use your imagination), a smaller setting with one room (you don’t have to wonder on which floor your friends are all night), a loyal following to the owners and management, and oh, the cocktail waitresses and bartenders in tiny airline attendant outfits don’t hurt either.

While there seems to be a delay in the opening of Current, the next property in this group’s interest, you can continue to check out Fly Tuesday - Saturday evenings.  www.flyloungedc.com

Bang & Olufsen event in Tysons Corner

B&O in Tysons 001 Not that I have ever been one to get excited about a trip to an A/V store (I can count on one hand the number of times I have ever stepped foot inside a Best Buy, Radio Shack and Circuit City collectively), but Bang & Olufsen is certainly not your granddaddy’s audio visual store.  It certainly is not a person on a budget’s audio visual store either, but hey, that’s what makes it fun.

(Pictured above: DC Magazine’s Tony Hudgins and Martha Pheeny check out a demonstration; below: Golf minus the bugs and the walking)

B&O in Tysons 002 Wednesday night, one of the many, many, many festive events in the area was not found within the confines of the District, but rather in ye ole Tysons Corner, VA - the Mall actually.  The super high-end, sexy, A/V boutique that caters to the wealthy and innovative, as well as folks who have just about everything except a $1,200 cell phone, held a fun shin dig with DC Magazine.  Nationally, Modern Luxury Magazines have a very strong partnership with the company.  This event wasn’t just about the oooing and ahhhing and sticker shocking (the most expensive item in the store was a pair of speakers that went for a mere $20,000 - sign me up for the five year lay away plan!), we also got to play Nintendo Wii.  Well, I didn’t, but a lot of other folks did.  Apparently, the physical game is very addicting and even more fun to do after having a few glasses of wine.

Check out Bang & Olufsen on the Upper Level near Nordstrom’s in Tysons I … and bring your credit card!

A whale of a tale …

vineyard vines (R) is here in Georgetown.  We can finally breathe a sigh of relief!  Last night, one of the many many many festive events in town was the official grand opening party of the company’s newest property found on Wisconsin Avenue.  While the lads and gals who came out were the “usual suspects” found stalking the Georgetown streets and Washington Life Magazine parties, there was one little surprise guest:  2007 Bachelor Andy Baldwin.  Apparently, he has a tight connection to a local person in the DC area and also a love of preppy clothing with whales on them.  At any rate, the handsome rose giving officer and gentleman was in town, ready to be surrounded by swooning ladies.  Also on hand were Shep and Ian Murray, brothers and co-founders of the line.  Except to see lots of pretties in pink and brightly colored ties this summer season.

You’ve heard of parrot heads … these have got to trump them (thanks to Sarah Rosenwinkel for taking the pix)

What’s to come …

Deep apologies for any delay in postings yesterday and today.  I have been having terrible technical issues with Comcast internet service and we are hoping they will be resolved by tomorrow.

What you will read: Bang & Olufsen party it up with DC Magazine in Tysons while vineyard vines (R) bring in the usual suspects to their new store in Georgetown with Washington Life Magazine.  Sinatra is celebrated in style at Hudson, Fly Lounge celebrates two years (can you believe two years has passed already?) in Washington and folks flock to L2 for a birthday party and a political campaign…more to come on all of these!
