Birthday’d out

Fuego Caliente! 001 Thank you to everyone who attended the many, many (too many, some might say) birthday parties Saturday, Tuesday and last night.  Saturday was the Fuego Caliente! bash for Teatro Goldoni owners Michael Kosmides and Jose Garcia and me (Tres Leos can only mean fire!).  The staff decorated the entire restaurant with red balloons and tons of flair (yes, I wrote “flair”).  The dinner was outstanding - Chef Enzo Fargione and his kitchen went above and beyond with the 3 course $50 fixed price menu.  The service was perfect for the close to 100 guests dining before the party started rocking.  Oh, and you couldn’t have picked a better visual for the song “99 Red Balloons” …. ahhh… the 80’s…

(pictured above: the scene pre-dinner and pre-party; 99 Red Balloons ….;yes, I got the “wear red” memo, but I was a Golden Flame … a thorn between two roses, perhaps?)

Birthday and Ceviche 014 Tuesday night was another three person birthday celebration, this time all ladies.  Christy Schlesinger, Amanda Walke and I, plus about 30 of our closest friends were treated to experiencing Ceviche Glover Park’s enomatic wine bar, thanks to Tara de Nicolas and Jessica Gibson who set up the dinner.  Not only did we get to self serve some delectable vinos, we also participated in tasting Ceviche’s Restaurant Week menu, which, may I add, was quite delicious.  Should you venture to Glover Park to try out the wine bar and menu, bring your appetite.  The servings are generous and you will want to eat it all.

2nd Annual Taste of Friendship Heights

For folks who live or work near the ever growing Friendship Heights area of DC or even those who have never stepped foot on that part of Wisconsin Ave, but have always wanted to, you have been presented with a special opportunity.  Please see the press release below pertaining to the 2nd Annual Taste of Friendship Heights from Joel Schwarz at the Friendship Heights Urban Network:

The Friendship Heights Urban Network (FHUN) today announced that the Village Center of Friendship Heights will be hosting the 2nd Annual Taste of Friendship Heights, a continuation of the successful Taste of Friendship Heights that took place in September of 2007. The event is scheduled from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the Village Center, at 4433 South Park Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD.

Formed in early 2006 to organize the growing young professional community in the Friendship Heights area and to take advantage of the influx of commercial businesses, the Friendship Heights Urban Network, commonly known as “FHUN,” has quickly grown to become one of Friendship Heights’ premier groups.

In a little over two years since its formation, the group has grown from 3 people to a membership of over 300 people, a good number of whom actually live outside the Friendship Heights area; in places as far away as Rockville, Maryland and Arlington, Virginia. FHUN has already hosted a number of well attended events, including happy hours, restaurant hops, and barbeques.

According to FHUN’s Chair-person, Joel Michael Schwarz, “the goal of our organization is to support the Friendship Heights area as a community–with a large population of young professionals—one which enjoys similar amenities, like restaurants, bars and other social outlets, that one finds in Bethesda or downtown D.C.”

“Each of our events tries to highlight the great places that make Friendship Heights a destination spot for young professionals,” Schwarz said. “Our hope is to support the continued growth of Friendship Heights as a fun, integrated community that offers something for both young professionals and seniors.”

The 2nd Annual Taste of Friendship Heights will showcase some of the area’s premiere restaurants, including Rock Creek, Clyde’s, Lia’s, Famoso, M Café, Indique Heights, Potomac Pizza and Giffords (for those who have a sweet tooth!). Tickets will be sold for $1 a piece, and the average price of a sample of food will be $3. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to three local charities—Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, NIH Charities, and Fight for Children. Several organizations are sponsors of the event, including GEICO and New England Development. GECIO will be providing free entertainment—the Gecko will be there to take pictures with children and adults alike. GEICO will also be hosting a Boys and Girls Club event on the same day as the Taste of Friendship Heights (at its headquarters, across the street from the Village Center) and all are invited to enjoy the event.

They are known mostly for its yearly "Dance Party", an extremely popular fundraiser headed by Winston Bao Lord and Ashley Taylor.
