A Red Hot Party Night at Mate’
4 Comments »Have you noticed it has taken me some time today until I posted about the 6th Annual Summer Birthday Bash? That was because this birthday girl needed a few hours to recover. And I am still not done. However, I wanted to write something because I was SO excited and pleased with the entire evening and I have a few shout outs and much gratitude to share.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the party at Mate’ in Georgetown last night. First, for all intents and purposes, DC is “dead” in August. D-E-A-D. Not only does Congress split town, but so does pretty much everyone else. I used to think it was because of the infiltration of tourists. I know better now. It is because of the HEAT. OPPRESSIVE HEAT. OPPRESSIVE: Good word to describe our friendly DC humidity and heat. And that oppressive heat did not relent last night either, no siree Bob.
We had an amazing turnout, even with it being August and hot as H-E-double hockey sticks. (The theme was “The Redder the Better”. There were red dresses, handbags, shoes, earrings, underwear and faces.) At last count, we had 272 RSVP’s! (Check out Geoff Livingston’s post about the party: http://www.livingstonbuzz.com/blog/2007/08/09/pamelas-party-had-punch/)
I have to thank the wonderful folks from Latin Concepts: Jessica Gibson, Farees Salim, Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld, Osmar Nunez Vilches, Nesrin Abaza and the awesome support staff. I thank them for generously donating their space (they closed it the public from 7pm - 9pm), the awesome sushi - platter after platter after platter came out - and of course, their staff was friendly, quick and professional. Oh, and the birthday cake. How could I not mention that? I am a cake fiend. It was yummmmy. Except Jessica thought she was funny and put trick candles on. Not a nice to thing to do to a girl who has been drinking Christiania drinks for 3 hours. Ok, I was a little slow, but she kindly said “Ok, STOP, you will never blow them out!”
Thank you also to our favorite smooth organic potato vodka that is 6 times distilled, none other than Norway’s very own Christiania Vodka. Kevin Richards, the company’s Prez hopped on the Acela from NYC to come down for the party. They kindly donated cases for cocktails: “Pamela’s Birthday Christi Punch”, “Unforgettable Christi” and of course, “NAKED CHRISTI”. Yumm.
Thank you to Russell Hirshon, one of the social set’s reliable shutterbugs, who floats from party to party. He donated his skills and will be sending me some awesome shots to share for sure.
The purpose behind these parties is really to connect people from various social and business spheres. I have been throwing these with the help of my friends since 2002 when I turned 30. (There I said it). Each August, we find a new venue and make a big deal, not of my birthday, but of the people we know in this town who should know others. These events are about connecting old friends, creating new friendships, forming partnerships and finding business deals. Oh, and its about HAVING FUN. I am glad that the excuse to bring people together happens to be my birthday, but that is just the excuse, not the reason.
Thanks again to each of you for coming, your fantastic cards, and gifts (seriously, you did NOT have to give anything!) and for making it ANOTHER SUPER SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL SUMMER BIRTHDAY BASH! Lots o pix to follow!

It was a great party Pamela but now I am ready to leave the heat and head back up to Nantucket. I will see you up there at the end of August. You will actually need a sweater…what a nice thought!
