A Taste for Summer in Washington

Calling all foodies, calling all foodies … oh, and anyone else left in DC during August who is just hungry.  Its that time of year again – Summer Restaurant Week is here!  (I wrote about the Winter one in January) During the week of August 6 – 12, some of the area’s finest establishments welcome us in to taste and try multi-course meals that are created for this fun event.

If you are familiar with the concept, lunch prices always reflect the year ($20.07 for 2007) and dinner prices just go up $10 ($30.07).  The specials are 3 courses and fixed price.  While typically the restaurant’s regular menu will be available, diners are encouraged by staff to try the specials- and hey why wouldn’t you?  How often can you get lunch for $20 or dinner for $30 at most places in DC?  NOT OFTEN, unless you are getting an appetizer.  Remember, these awesome deals do not include beverages, tax, nor tip.

Please check out the comprehensive list and hit up some of your favorites or any of those places that you have always wanted to try: http://www.washington.org/restaurantwk/#c

Thank you to the Washington Convention & Tourism Corporation and the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington for bringing DC Restaurant Week #11.

P.S. Beware the August tourists … they love this week and don’t be surprised if you are surrounded by fanny packs, “I Heart DC” tees, and sneakers in some restaurants.  Also, while this is a wonderful way to introduce newcomers to a fine establishment, remember that the Chefs’ finest dishes aren’t typically prepared on a $20 / $30 menu.  Use this week to check out the ambiance and service, get a taste, and if you are intrigued, come back for a real experience.  Don’t use this week as the “be all and end all” of your dining adventures.  Bon Appetit!
