Art Appreciation

An impressive crowd turned out to admire local artist Dorri Thyden’s work at the Touchstone Gallery last Thursday. Dorri exhibited 22 new bold pieces (acrylic on canvas) from her Capitol Colors and Southwest collections at this private reception. Plenty of wine and some light appetizers were offered as everyone gathered around her larger-than-life paintings, pointing out their favorites. I loved having too many from which to choose!
The atmosphere was relaxed as guests wandered through the gallery, and Dorri was always on hand to answer any questions and welcome her supporters. She also made sure we noticed the fun hidden surprises in some of her pieces – like the word “VOTE” outlined in white on her painting of the United States, which accurately represents the conservative red, liberal blue, and mixed purple states.
If you missed out on last week’s reception, I encourage you to stop by the Touchstone Gallery (406 7th St., NW, 2nd floor) between now and September 6th to take a look at Dorri’s exhibit. All of her gorgeous pieces are reasonably priced, so you can add some pizzazz to your place without breaking the bank. And that’s something we can all appreciate.
