CARE Kicks Off Atop the Hay Adams Hotel
It was just one of those picture perfect spring Sunday evenings in DC, set at a venue which could not be better, all for a beautiful cause. CARE was holding its 2008 Gala Kick Off reception on the Rooftop Terrace of the Hay Adams Hotel. Our hosts were 62nd Anniversary Celebration Co-Chairs Dr. George Bitar and his lovely wife Rima, Ms. Theresa Rhodes, CARE’s Executive Director of the Southeast Region and Ms. Lydia Marshall, a member of the Board of Directors in addition to having the high distinction of being CARE International’s Former Chairwoman.
The guests ranged from friends of the Bitars who were new to CARE (which included me), to long time supporters of CARE. All obviously were enjoying the best views found in Washington, but we seriously learned a lot about this wonderful internationally focused organization. CARE helps women in 3rd world countries become educated, self-sufficient, healthier and learn various trade professions that will help to create income avenues for their families and improve the economy of these countries. An extremely favorable point that was made by Lydia Marshall, was that for every dollar donated, $.90 is put towards the cause.
To learn more about CARE, please visit the site www.care.org. The 62nd Anniversary Celebration will be held on June 17th at the residence of the British Ambassador and Lady Sheinwald and special Celebrity Guest, Supermodel Christy Turlington. Following the Diplomatic Celebration, on the eve of June 19th, various Ambassadors will host the Embassy Dinners, which will consist of 20 or fewer people at the Embassies.
Thank you to the Bitars for all of their dedication and passion for this cause. Their Chairmanship will certainly bring much success to the above events.
