CARE’s 62nd Anniversary Re-Cap

Many thanks goes to Dr. Rima Bitar for sending in the following re-cap of Tuesday evening’s CARE Gala.  While it would have been nice to have been cloned so I could have attended the Nordstrom Designer Preview and the CARE Gala, alas, human cloning has yet to be taken from the big screen to the mainstream.  Gala Chairs Dr. George and Rima Bitar also were featured in the latest edition of Capitol File Magazine (p. 164) and generously gave an acknowledgement to the Punch.

With exclusive events over the last several months, CARE’s 62nd Anniversary Celebration culminated with the Diplomatic Celebration at the historic residence of the International Chairs, His Excellency Sir Nigel Sheinwald, the British Ambassador, and Lady Sheinwald on Tuesday, June 17, 2008. During the course of the evening, CARE Ambassador Dr. Sheila Johnson and CARE CEO Dr. Helene Gayle presented the international humanitarian awards to supermodel Christy Turlington Burns, Grammy award winning singer John Legend, and the UPS Foundation. Christy Turlington Burns is a CARE Ambassador who has been working with CARE on improving maternal health in developing countries. John Legend has been presented the award in recognition of his work on the Show Me Campaign (www.showmecampaign.org) which aims at eradicating extreme poverty in a Tanzanian village. The UPS Foundation was awarded for their constant commitment to CARE in helping them transport much needed supplies to developing countries. The evening co-chairs were Drs.
