Countdown to 4th Annual Ball on the Mall

The countdown has begun for Ball on the Mall 2012, the 4th annual social event of the spring season actually held under tents, under the big vast skies, with views of the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building on Saturday, May 5th.  Hosted by Board and Steering Committee of the L’Enfant Society, who has been working diligently yearly to raise millions of dollars for the much needed restoration of America’s Front Yard, this night is one you will not want to miss.

The Board and Steering Committee and the Trust for the National Mall staff and leadership kicked off the excitement for Ball on the Mall, or BOTM as some reference the event, at The Madison hotel a few weeks ago and the function was received with open arms.  New faces pored into the recently renovated space restaurant, The Federalist, an appropriate venue to coincide with this year’s “Americana” theme.  People eagerly signed up for L’Enfant Society memberships in between sipping on special cocktails, grabs of butler passed oysters and trips to the cheese board at the extensive buffet table.  The energy was high and Caroline Cunningham, President of the Trust did her best to gain silence in the room so she could welcome everyone and give thanks to all, but hey, this is Washington. No one knows how to keep his or mouth silent for a speech.  Unfortunately, it comes with territory.

Alas, the big announcement as to what nationally recognized figures would be leading the BOTM as Honorary Co-Chairs wasn’t ready for official public consumption that night, but it has been for about a week now: Barbara Bush and Jenna Bush Hager with Congressman Adam Kinzinger as the Honorary Congressional Chairman and heading the L’Enfant in their tireless efforts are Co-Chairs Christian L. Gullott and Marissa P. Mitrovich.
