Fashion Fights Poverty Ethical Fashion Event & Campaign 2008

FFP 2008 and National Book Festival 011 Friday night, fashion took to the stage in the form of eco-friendly material and / or was created with ethical business practices.  The St. Regis Hotel hosted the more intimate (only 200 seats) of the past Fashion Fights Poverty fashion shows this year with five talented designers, all of whom recognize fashion is not just about making clothing.  The houses of Adele Wechsler, Annatarian, Kayce Armstrong, Eric Finn and Mae take it upon themselves to utilize their wares as a platform for social responsibility.

FFP 2008 and National Book Festival 012 Actor and comedienne Parker Posey joined local Fox 5 Anchor Will Thomas as Mistress and Master of Ceremonies, however, as Will was spot on, Parker apparently thought “off the script” would be more entertaining.  I have a feeling that as a comedienne, she was used to “winging” public appearances.  Sometimes we Washingtonians don’t know what to do when Hollywood comes to DC!

The funds raised from that evening will go to FFP’s beneficiary, Nest.  Please go to http://shop.buildanest.com/  to find out more about this young charity that helps women in developing countries start their own sustainable art or artisan businesses which in turn eventually assists that country’s economy.
