Fashion Fights Poverty (FFP) announced today their 2008 beneficiary is NEST, a non-profit organization that supports women artists and artisans in the developing world by helping them create sustainable entrepreneurial businesses. Scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2008, this year’s event takes place at the historic and newly renovated St. Regis Hotel, Washington, D.C., FFP’s 2008 presenting sponsor. “Fashion Fights Poverty has been fortunate from the very beginning to have increasing numbers of individuals, organizations and businesses involved in our annual benefit. The addition of the St. Regis, Washington, D.C. as our presenting sponsor and NEST as the 2008 beneficiary truly enhances our ability to bring more of these groups together,” said Christopher Belisle, President of Fashion Fights Poverty.

Like all its event’s, this year’s FFP fashion presentation addresses issues of poverty by showcasing designers that adhere to such principles as fair trade, equitable compensation and the use of environmentally-sustainable materials. With the event being held at the St. Regis, supporters can look forward to a vast change in production, a more exclusive and intimate catwalk presentation , VIP reception, and after-party hosted by The Michael Romeo Group at Lotus Lounge, and the “Dress Responsibly” launch party (September 4th) at Tattoo.
As one of “the largest fashion fundraisers in Washington, DC” according to the Washington Post, the always anticipated fashion presentation continues to exceed standards of excellence set by the previous year. “The St. Regis, Washington, D.C. is delighted to be partnering with Fashion Fights Poverty in 2008 and to be the selected hotel for this very high profile and important social event,” said André Jacques, St Regis Marketing and Sales Director.

Founded in 2005 by the Style & Image Network (SIN) and in partnership with The United Nations Association, this annual fashion benefit is the only one of its kind. The promotional and financial effort of each year’s chosen benefactor also continues to propel from FFP initiatives. NEST, this year’s chosen beneficiary will undoubtedly experience that same success. Like past benefactors, NEST is a non profit organization advocating socially conscious practices in the fashion and textile industries. However unlike past benefactors, NEST produces its own line of merchandise, sold at boutiques and online (www.buildanest.com), whose sales directly benefit the organization. NEST provides women with micro credit loans for their art or craft based businesses and enables them to begin or maintain income generating businesses.
