“Game Change” Premieres in the Nation’s Capital
By Punch Correspondent Darryl Keeton
On Thursday, March 8th, Washington D.C.’s Newseum got the chance to feature the HBO Films presentation of the new drama “Game Changeâ€. The movie is a behind-the-scenes account of John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and is based on the best selling book of the same name by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann.
The viewing reception made for an interesting mix of different worlds as politicos, celebrities, executives and journalists were all under one roof to take in the film.
Julianne Moore and Sarah Paulson, stars of the film, greeted media on the red carpet. Director Jay Roach and screenwriter Danny Strong were also on hand. The two reunited to work on this project after previously collaborating on HBO’s “Recountâ€. Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris also star in the film. It was shot on location in Baltimore, MD and Santa Fe, NM.
While the book (Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime) covers both the Democratic and Republican primaries of 2008, the film version focuses in on the process through which Sarah Palin was chosen to be the vice presidential candidate. The story is told from the account of McCain strategist Steve Schmidt who was instrumental in selecting Palin for the ticket.
