The Green Cup of Polo is back this year at the Capitol Polo Club.  Last year was (hot), but great fun because of the unique twist the Cup has.  Guests will be served organic cuisine, “ecotinis”, and watch two polo matches.  It’s all eco-friendly (even the cabs are EnviroCab!)

All profits from the event goes to support ACORE (American Council on Renewable Energy), EPIC (Equestrian Partners in Conservation), and Punch Community Partner EarthEcho International.

In 2008, the Green Cup of Polo became the first social event to be certified ‘green’ by the leonardo academy. We aim to continue this certification through 2009. To be true to its mission, the event management incorporates green intelligent practices that decrease the event’s ecological footprint as much as possible. Through the help of our sponsors the events was even able to obtain certified carbon credits. Other environmental principles include:

  • Serving organic and sustainably harvested food in the VIP, hospitality tents, and general admission areas
  • Offering organic and sustainably produced beverages in the VIP area, hospitality tents, and general admission areas.

  • All t-shirts for volunteers are fair-trade and produced from organic cotton, and printed with soy- or vegetable-based ink.

  • All marketing material and the program are printed on at least 30 percent post-consumer recycled paper with soy- or vegetable-based ink.

  • Offering recycling and composting during the event.

  • All serviceware is biodegradable and will be composted

  • Cleaning of the grandstand is done by an eco-friendly cleaning company, which uses biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning products.

  • Environmental education: the event will showcase environmental organizations and corporations that promote green living.

  • Reusable VIP bags

    Enjoy you blog especially the idea of using biodegradable plastics. What happens to all the biodegradable plastic once you even is over?
