Green Cup of Polo Re-Cap
Saturday, a few hundred Washington polo lovers and supporters of all things “green” braved the heat, humidity, sun, and humidity (did I write that already?) to attend the Green Cup of Polo held at Maryland’s Capitol Polo Club. I was informed that the Club was the place to be during the 80’s. Polo was strong back in the day in Washington, from all day weekend excursions to this field to even the fields on the Mall (remember the September 6th Smithsonian Young Benefactors 2nd Annual Polo Cup to be held on the National Mall). Sadly, the strong polo hype and lifestyle went away for years-many have their own speculations as to why-and over the past three to five years, has made a major resurgence in this market. For that, we are fortunate.
The Green Cup was more of a sedate, mature crowd, with many seasoned polo fans in the Skye VIP lounge as well as upstairs in the VIP private boxes. All guests enjoyed organic cuisine, sustainable wines and beers and lots and lots of water (did I mention the heat?).
The usual suspects on the field were the famous First Chukkers as well as the Capitol Polo Club team in an exhibition match, then the big match was the Green Cup Pro Challenge with Team Solena against Los Tigres. Congratulations to Solena for their win over Los Tigres.

Another congratulations goes out to Green Cup co-founders Dr. Robert Do and Sara Nielsen for a well done event, surely next year it will continue to grow and gain more support. Thank you to all who attended, the sponsors and those who donated their time and services to make the Green Cup a truly nice event.
