HBO’s “VEEP” Descends on D.C.
By Punch Correspondent Darryl Keeton
Tuesday night HBO hosted a reception and special screening of the new HBO Comedy Series, “VEEP†at the United States Institute for Peace.
VEEP tells the story of former senator Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), a rising star in her party and an influential leader who becomes Vice President of the United States. The show chronicles the daily dilemmas of Vice President Meyer, who juggles a busy public schedule and a demanding private life, all while discovering that her new job is unlike anything she expected.
If any portion of this sounds familiar, we’ve been told not to jump to any conclusions. A casual observer might suggest that after a highly successful release of the film, “Game Changeâ€, HBO may have returned to the well in a new format. But, with no direct connection to that other famous person who almost made it as vice president. Wink. Wink.
At the show’s screening, cast members worked the red carpet on the second floor, while a steady flow of guests enjoyed drinks and intimate conversation on the floor below prior to the screening.
VEEP was created by Armando Iannucci (Oscar nominee for co-writing “In the Loopâ€) and the first of its eight-episode season premieres Sunday, April 22 (10:00-10:30p.m. ET/PT). It appears exclusively on HBO.
