Hoop, There It Is

Last night, we went to Miami. Ok, not really, but it sure felt like it a bit on the roof of the newly opened Liaison Capitol Hill for the Hoop Dreams Rooftop Rendezvous. Aside from the scorching heat, the cool blue pool and bumpin’ beats proved that DC’s rooftops are the place to be this summer. Luckily, an open bar was available all night to help keep us cool and “Impeachmint Mojitos” – the Liaison’s signature poolside cocktail – were offered for the first hour only. We did manage to find solace and a bit of shade under an umbrella while we sipped, snacked, and chatted it up with some of DC’s other do-gooders.
Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund’s (HDSF) founder, Miss Susie Kay, looked nothing less than glamorous as she worked the crowd. And she had good reason to thank those in attendance… 100% of the proceeds from the event directly benefited the HDSF. Susie started the HDSF in 1996 and it has since grown into a not-for-profit organization committed to expanding the academic and career horizons of Washington, DC public school students. Now that’s something to raise your mojito glass to. Thanks to all who came out last night in support of the HDSF. To learn more about their mission, please visit www.hoopdreams.org.
