Key to the Cure Paints Saks Fifth Avenue Pink
Last Thursday evening, Saks Fifth Avenue Chevy Chase was all about the pink as they played host to the annual Key to the Cure Kick-off benefiting Suburban Hospital’s Women’s Cancer Programs. Chaired by Amanda Polk and Linda Courie with Honorary Chairs being Laura Evans (FOX 5), Barbara Harrison (NBC 4), Alison Starling (ABC-7), and Andrea Roane (CBS 9), the night held a huge turn out even with numerous events going on around town, including Opening Night of the Washington Ballet and a fashion show across the street at Saks Jandel.
All four floors were used to provide guests with special drinks, exquisite floral arrangements, an oxygen bar (!), and food stations from area restaurants (PP Hudson welcomed those in from the cooler air with a cup of their special Matzoh Ball Soup), including a tower of Georgetown Cupcakes with the signature breast cancer pink ribbon atop the icing. There were tons of prizes to be had from jewelry to sports tickets to trips when those who chanced it, purchased the Key to the Treasure Box keys. Even if you didn’t win, your small investment still went to benefit the cause, so at least you knew you were doing something good. Speaking of doing something good, shoppers too could feel great when they whipped out the plastic because not only was there 10-25% off that night through Sunday, the store would be donating 2% of all sales back to the Suburban Hospital.
The only regret some attendees experienced was not getting to take a peak at the fashion show which was held on the 4th floor. Apparently unbeknownst to many, a “reality show” was being taped and if you were going to be on the floor, you had to sign a release which was more or less shoved in your face at the top of the escalator by someone working for the production company. I witnessed more than a handful of guests politely decline and return right back to the down escalator (I being one of them).
Congratulations to Amanda and Linda, Saks, Suburban Hospital and the entire host committee for another in the pink event. To learn more or to be involved in next year’s event, please go to: http://www.suburbanhospital.org/CharitableGiving/KeytoCure.aspx

Thank you for covering and coming.
I would also like to apologize to all for the taping on the top floor. I had no idea that it was happening until I walked up there and they asked me to sign (which I refused to do) and was really annoyed that neither I, nor my Co-Chair, Linda, or the Suburban Foundation was even asked. So, as a chair, I was unable to watch the show. Can you imagine?
Hope that you had a good time.
