Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory …

Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory …

… and the gory.  And everything in between.  And during every waking hour, which these days there seem to be a lot more of than  sleeping hour(s).  Such is life in the fast lane of busy Washington, D.C. (and Los Angeles, and New York City, and globe trotting – what time zone am I in again?).  But Kiehl’s Since 1851 a.k.a. my skin doctor, knows with stress, climate change, long hours, and just plain life, your eyes take a beating, especially that delicate area which surrounds your precious peepers.

Kiehl’s introduced this month Midnight Recovery Eye which is an overnight elixir designed to address puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles overnight. YES: OVERNIGHT.  Here’s the low down:

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye

The companion to Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Midnight Recovery Eye helps regenerate, repair and replenish the delicate skin around the eye while you sleep, and while skin is naturally repairing itself from daily damage and environmental stressors.  It’s Kiehl’s very first repairing overnight eye product, and is paraben-free, sulfate-free, fragrance-free and mineral-oil free.  Midnight Recovery Eye combines the unique blend of active essential and botanical oils found in Midnight Recovery concentrate—Squalane, Evening Primrose and Lavender—as well as a new ingredient, Butcher’s Broom, a rare herb that’s known to improve blood circulation, and has been specifically added to strengthen the fragile capillary walls and reduce puffiness under the eyes.   The new ingredient is in direct keeping with our apothecary roots—it’s been used for centuries by old-world pharmacists.

Studies show that skin under eye area is significantly different than the rest of our face — it is 1/3 as thick, contains 1/3 fewer oil glands, and the blood vessels are extremely fragile.  These physiological differences make the delicate skin around the eyes thinner, more translucent, severely dehydrated and puffy – making the eyes the first place to show signs of aging. Prevention is valuable, and according to leading dermatologists, proper skincare at night is highly effective.

During the day, the primary function of skin is to protect against internal and external aggressors. At night when skin is at rest, it needs to regenerate, repair, and replenish what it has lost as a result of daily stresses. While we sleep, the skin is most amenable to rejuvenation and recovery as there are few environmental stressors to detract from its healing process. Throughout the night, skin actively repairs itself from daily damage and activity reaches its maximum – blood flow increases, the skin absorption of actives is at its highest rate, and cell turnover peaks.

The ingredients work synergistically to enhance microcirculation of blood vessels and boost hydration in the under-eye area, at a time when skin is naturally programmed to best absorb active ingredients, typically between midnight and 4 a.m.
