Kids, set your iPhone calendars to “busy” if you like anything educational and fun.   There are a lot of good events to attend this month where you can get your brain and curiosity on.  Here goes:

National Geographic Live is a series of dynamic lectures, live concerts and compelling films presented at National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C.

LOCATION: All programs (unless otherwise noted) will take place in Grosvenor Auditorium at 1600 M Street, NW.

TICKETS may be purchased online at www.nglive.org, via telephone at (202) 857-7700, or in person at the National Geographic ticket office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Free parking is available in the National Geographic underground garage for all programs that begin after 6 p.m.

Quest for Adventure Series – Event 3

Headed for Antarctica, Nat Geo Traveler editor ANDREW EVANS left Washington, DC, on a bus with a backpack and smartphone. He reached his goal 10,000 miles later, completing an overland journey through 14 countries, with thousands following him in real-time online. Hear about his epic bus adventure and life as Nat Geo’s “Digital Nomad.”

Exploring the Past Series – Event 4

First published 400 years ago, the King James Bible is a landmark both of biblical translation and the English language. British author ADAM NICOLSON, for an article in the December 2011 National Geographic, traveled from this Bible’s homeland in England to the far reaches of the English-speaking world, where people of many backgrounds continue to find beauty and faith in its words.

Celebrating its sixth year at Nat Geo, Irish Christmas returns with its ever popular festive mix of traditional music, dance, and storytelling. This year’s holiday concert, produced by Oisin Mac Diarmada, features the rich vocals of LUMIERE (Éilís Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon) as well as harpist GRÁINNE HAMBLY, piper TOMMYMARTIN, singer and accordionist SÉAMUS BEGLEY, and dancers from the Culkin School.

Big Idea Series – Event 3

How is technology expanding the limits of the known universe? 2006 Nobel Laureate in Physics, JOHN MATHER, who has designed space probes to measure the traces of the big bang, will discuss this topic with Nat Geo Explorer-in- Residence ROBERT BALLARD, who has pioneered cutting-edge technology to unlock deep ocean mysteries. BOYD MATSON, host of National Geographic Weekend, moderates. Reception to follow.
