Off to Greener Pastures

Green Cup of Polo 2009

Saturday, hundreds of Washingtonian polo fans who support living a greener, sustainable way of life, came out to the Capitol Polo Club located in Poolesville, MD.  The weather was literally perfect and we were more than entertained by the matches throughout the day as well as the demos and performances provided for us in between.

This year, the non-polo match exhibitions were quite memorable, especially the Celebrity Exhibition Polo demonstration that placed former Redskin Gary Clark on a horse for the very first time.  Rick “Doc” Walker (cigar in mouth, of course) and his friends yelled out at Gary telling him that his horse had more points than he and if he didn’t get his horse to move that they would take back the Super Bowl ring and so on and so on.  Poor Gary.  His pony was being led around by handler nice and slowly, but luckily, Gary was able to finally score a goal (which his friends were sure had been set up).  The other celebrity riders included Philippe Cousteau of EarthEcho International, who gave a quick speech before he saddled up (which everyone talked through-typical Washington) and made a goal, Ambassador Said T. Jawad from Afghanistan, Carlos Bignoli of the Capitol Polo Club, and the famous Charlie Muldoon.  The interesting thing is that even though Philippe loves animals (his name means “lover of horses”), he couldn’t wait to get off the pony.  Perhaps he likes seahorses better?

Congratulations to all of the participants and winners, and to the folks at Green Cup for executing an excellent event and show again.  The final numbers raised for EPIC, ACORE, and EarthEcho International will be out soon, but thank you to all of the sponsors and attendees for choosing to live a greener way of life.

    Pamela,

Thank you so much for your support of the Green Cup, it was indeed a great day made perfect by the weather and great attendance. Sorry it was so hectic that I didn’t give you the promised “Mic” time to get your comments on the air but as you pointed out Rick “Doc” Walker and Clarence Vaughn were hogging all of my celebrity commentator time !!

Thanks again. Next year we want to see you up playing against Phillippe !!

    cheers,

    Neil
