Punch Pick: Love Letters for Literacy to Celebrate 20th Anniversary

Love Letters for Literacy

February is for lovahhhhhs.  IMHO, there is no more romantic way to express one’s adoration, than through the penning of handwritten love letters (with excellent spelling and grammar!).  Love Letters for Literacy is celebrating twenty years as the signature fundraising event for the Washington Literacy Center (WLC) on Tuesday, February 12th at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The event Committee is led by Chair Cameron Gilreath (Time Warner, Inc.) and Vice Chair Bradley Hayes (U.S. Chamber of Commerce).

WLC is planning a gala evening supporting the Washington Literacy Center’s adult literacy program serving the District of Columbia.

The fantastic program this year will feature esteemed journalist Margaret Carlson, who has forged a career calling it how she sees it, having penned a popular column for TIME magazine-Public Eye- for over a decade and commented on the political news of the day for FOX News and MSNBC. Her spirited writing as the chief political correspondent for Bloomberg News and the Washington editor of THE Week, along with her 15 years of experience as a regular panelist on CNN’s The Capital Gang, have made her one of the most recognized and respected political journalists of today. POLITICO founder Jim VandeHei will serve as a celebrity reader. Formerly with The Washington Post, where he was the national political reporter, he created POLITICO to provide for a new and exciting way of delivering political news.

Attendees will hear directly from several students about how the WLC has changed their lives – their stories are truly inspiring. Tickets are $195 ($175 for those under 40) and include a pre-dinner reception, a silent and a live auction with former Senator Don Nickles as the live auctioneer, along with a seated dinner.

We’ll have more details on some of the auction items and other readers … so stay tuned. Meantime, feel free to purchase your tickets HERE.
