Rockin’ the Pink

You are living under a rock if you haven’t figured out by now that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And I don’t mean Hard Rock.  These next weeks will be filled from top to bottom with fundraisers, walks, cocktail events, shopping parties, concerts, book signings, you name it, it will be done in the name of finding a cure for breast cancer.  Just remember, wear pink all month long if you so choose to support. If not, you can run by the Hard Rock Cafe and purchase their adorable pink guitar pin for mere $12 (pictured on my scarf).  75% of the proceeds will go to to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Wednesday morning, the Holster Project and Change-Makers, in coordination with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Hard Rock Cafe, Delta Airlines and the talented Melissa Etheridge, held a panel discussion, concert and luncheon at DC’s Hard Rock Cafe.  Side note: The Hard Rock Cafe locally, nationally, and internationally is very intent on being a part of giving back to the community and has a strong charity focus. They hosted our Red Cross NCA Oscar Night 2009.

The conversation really seemed to center around the words beginning with “C” and I don’t mean cancer.  The inspiring thoughts from Melissa Etheridge’s mouth, as well as the doctors and researchers on the panel included:

Communication, Choice, Confidence, Creativity, and Change

All of these are powerful and empowering words that can be turned into action by not just those who are afflicted with the disease, but by those who are healthy now.  For instance:  We have the Choice to live healthier lives and to choose to buy water over soda.  We have to live our lives in a Confident, positive way.

Melissa for sure is a force to be reckoned with and has a huge presence.  It was a pleasure to see so many of her fans show up, as well as the breast cancer survivors who rode the Delta Pink Plane from Madison Square Garden (they are touring major markets).  I love the slogan: Delta-Taking Flight for the Fight.  And of course, the folks who were there to continue their interest in the Holster Project and Change-Makers (who are featured in this month’s DC magazine pg. 60).  Thank you to the Hard Rock Cafe for their involvement in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This marks the 10 Year Anniversary of the Pinktoberfest Campaign.  They will be hosting a number of concerts and events. Check them out here: HARD ROCK DC

p.s. MTV’s The Real World was there taping, so you’ll most likely see footage in their DC series.
