Spike’s Got the Good Stuff

Speaking of food (and I always seem to be), Monday night was the Grand Opening of Chef Spike Mendelsohn’s Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill. While this burger intense venue has been much hyped in the media, blogs, PR and foodie worlds, it of course, like every restaurant, still has to prove itself.
(Pictured above: View from the outside; below: Hats off to Spike as he enjoys a Skyy Vodka infused cocktail and mingles with the crowd)
Spike himself seemed to be a cool laid back guy (hard to believe that in a Chef!) who was just happy, excited, a bit shy, but friendly and social with everyone. He was happy to talk with reporters, take pictures, and his boyish demeanor really shone through when he stepped outside with the hungry crowd and poured champagne over the plaque to christen, then playfully drank the remaining sips out of the bottle. Showing much modesty, he didn’t even cut his own restaurant’s ceremonial ribbon. He allowed Stephanie Izard, the winner of his bout in Top Chef Season Four and the first woman to win Top Chef, to cut it saying, "I didn’t win, I’ll let Stephanie cut it! She won!" How can you not love this guy?
Guests got to enjoy small bites of his burgers, mini cups filled with his famous fries, as well as tastes of his desserts, while upstairs, we drank up new naturally infused Skyy Vodka cocktails and munched on a variety of cheeses, crackers and grapes.

Wow, I didnt know Spike Mendelsohn was a DC chef (didn’t watch much of this season’s Top Chef)! Very cool. Sounds like a great restaurant that I’ll have to add to my list. Thanks!
