Last month, Kara Manos of Politics of Pretty teamed up with Style & Image Network, to throw DC media a sneak peak to some of the goodies in store at the annual Beauty Night Out this spring. Tentatively set for April 24, BNO offers DC women an opportunity to primp and pamper the night away with all of their best girlfriends (details coming soon).
Kara, a PR-professional by day, launched her blog Politics of Pretty last February to cover the niche beauty, fashion and style scene at the local DC-level. She and her partners at SIN treated guests to complimentary make-up touch-ups, manicures by Nail Taxi, delicious seafood and lots of beautification tips and chit chat. Guests enjoyed catering by Sea Catch Restaurant & Raw Bar in Georgetown, so much so that the tuna tartar tacos were scooped up before I sampled them! Other hand-passed hors d’oeuvres included mini martini glasses brimming with a lime-citrus ceviche and spoons topped with spicy curry shrimp served in an avocado tomatillo base. An ice station served crisp, full, slightly briny Chincoteaque oysters on the halfshell, fresh from the Chesapeake. We washed down the seafood with smooth Versaille-label Emperor Vodka and Honest Tea concoctions, but happy hour at Sea Catch offers half-priced wine, beer and rail drinks to accompany their $1 oysters (Mon-Fri, 5-7 p.m.).
As an attendee, I made out with a load of goodies to smear, smudge and sample over the last month. Here are some highlights from my beauty swag bag… To score your own swag bag, stay tuned for details about SIN’s next Beauty Night Out coming in April 2013 – enjoy!
