Summer Eatin’

Welcome to August my friends. This is the month when we wave ciao! to Congress and anyone who has children because they are off to sandy beaches and warm waters.  At the same time, we stuck in D.C. grin and bear the crowds of un-heat/humidity suspecting tourists.  Ah, the gaggles of out of towners who roam aimlessly staring at monument apps on their iPhones, ride our red bicycles on the sidewalks, run into trees on their Segways and stand on the left side of the Metro escalators.  But, they do flock to our local restaurants and bring in money, so they are a necessary evil.

Meanwhile, I personally am counting down the days and nights to August 11th when I face v.4.0, until then, I like you should be, am indulging in some of the best farm food this mid-Atlantic region can offer.  At our favorite Farragut West/stone’s throw from the White House dining establishment Equinox Restaurant, new Executive Chef Karen Nicolas invites us to taste her seasonal creations (summer’s peak!) in a six or four course wine pairing dinner.  Why not?  I must also note that it was in 2010 that my friends surprised me with a private birthday party in the back room, which was one of the best birthday experiences ever.  Owners Ellen and Todd Gray were the epitome of gracious hosts, you would have thought they were having 20 of their best friends over to their own home.  I will never forget it.
