SNOBSWAP & Dewdrop are delighted to announce Swap In The City, a charity swap party and fashion show on Thursday, May 9th from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at tech hub 1776 (1133 15th Street, NW 12th Floor). The dynamic duo invites fashion enthusiasts to swap designer clothing and accessories and enjoy a fashion-focused event to help end domestic violence.
Swap In the City will rally DC’s emerging fashion giants for a fun-filled evening of social shopping and style sneak peeks. Attendees dropping off their luxury swaps will be greeted with complimentary cocktails and treats, a wealth of style tips from local experts, and have the opportunity to meet the wave of style savvy startup founders shaping DC’s fashion future. With music from DJ Kryogen and Comcast Sports’ Julie Donaldson as hostess, the soiree will offer a glimpse of ready-to-wear looks by D’Milikah while the top designer swap items will be modeled down the runway by CapFabb bloggers. Closing the night with a high-end clothing swap, event-goers will walk away with coveted, designer goods for a noble cause. All unswapped items will be donated to the Goodwill of Greater Washington and a portion of the event ticket proceeds will benefit Becky’s Fund, a non-profit that aims to foster awareness, encourage advocacy, promote activism and create support for victims of domestic violence.
So you’ve bought your ticket (or you are about to) to the most anticipated DC designer clothing swap of the season. You’ve gone through your closet and found some great pieces you want to swap, but you’re unsure if they’re right for Swap in the City. What brands are and are not accepted at the swap? Here are a few examples; and remember, brands from all seasons are welcome!
Let’s start with what IS accepted: DKNY, Yves Saint Laurent, Tory Burch…There are many, many more designers – Rule of thumb is if you can purchase it from Saks, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, or Bloomingdale’s, you can bring it to Swap in the City! We’ll also accept on-trend store brands such as Zara, J Crew, and Anthropologie. But they’re not that snobby, they will also accept designer collaborations… such as, Versace for H&M, Prabal for Target, Derek Lam for Kohl’s, Jimmy Choo for H&M, and Preen for Aldo Rise. Now let’s look at what’s NOT accepted: Gap, Forever 21, Banana Republic, and Express. They’re not saying these brands don’t produce great fashion, they just aren’t designer items. Please NO FAKES! And No knock-offs. And like designer items, we cannot humanly list all the brands that won’t be accepted. The list is just a general idea. Ultimately, each item will be assessed by the Swap in the City staff. The staff may ask you how much you got your item for and where, so come prepared! If you forgot, we’ll have an iPad handy to look it up, no worries. There will be a color code system that will ensure your authentic Versace dress cannot be swapped for a Versace for H&M dress. All in all, Swap in the City will be an evening of fair, fabulous, and fun designer swapping! Not only will you be promoting sustainability but you’ll be helping out a great cause.
With an open mind – “nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’M POSSIBLE” Audrey Hepburn. Can’t wait to swap with you this Thursday!
