Are you in search of outdoor dining, a chic restaurant, and classic cuisine? Or maybe a sophisticated bar complete with lush leather chairs and an impressive assortment of whiskeys? If so, Cappella Hotel’s The Grill Room and Rye Bar in Georgetown may be your new spot.
Last night I attended the opening of The Grill Room at the Capella Washington. The launch party introduced guests to the new look of Taittinger’s “Sec” Nocturne Champagne and served tastes from Chef Jakob Esko’s menu.
The first thing noted about this space are the aesthetics. The dining area has an upscale lounge feel with different designs and textures that mesh perfectly together. There was a beautifully set private dining room and floor to ceiling windows that open up to outdoor seating. And with optimal temperatures, like last night, this is a great place to enjoy the spring weather and view of the historic C&O Canal.
The star of the party was the Taittinger “Sec” Nocturne Champagne. Incredibly smooth and flavorful, this blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, had everyone refilling their glasses more than just a couple of times.
Bites of Chef Jacob Esko’s seafood dishes complimented the champagne. A must try are the crab cakes with bacon mayonnaise – delicious. I also sampled the beef and tuna tartars, ham and cheese croquettes, and seared scallops, all very good. The last round of tastes included cleverly presented crème brûlée and color-coordinated macaroons. What I didn’t get to try were the artisan meats they specialize in.
And for the whisky aficionado, The Rye Bar, offers “a rare and special selection” of rye whiskies prepared the old fashioned way to maintain the integrity. The bar also features fine liquors and spirits, premium Champagne, and hand-shaved specialty ice cubes.
Pamela recently went to the MR. PORTER.com Designs to Dress at the Capella and got a look around the rooftop lounge and infinity pool. The Capella Washington is located at 1050 31st St NW.
