The Georgetown Inn Gets Golden

The Georgetown Inn Celebrates 50 Years

To many who haunt the historic walkways of Georgetown on a regular basis, the brick building on Wisconsin Avenue which houses the Daily Grill is nothing more than a visual landmark, a business, a space, something ordinary.  There’s nothing to the naked eye that stands out in an ostentatious or obnoxious way, which is what its patrons enjoy about The Georgetown Inn.  The 96 room hotel is understated, quiet, and quaint, often a chosen destination of those who have an appreciation for Georgetown and feel more connected with tradition than with newer, grander boutiquey properties which have popped up all over the Washington area, along with their hip rooftop pools and patios, and “scenes”.

Today, there’s nothing “sceney” about The Georgetown Inn.  Back in the ’60′s and 70′s though, this sturdy and steady hotel welcomed in Hollywood stars, royalty and sports icons such as the Mercury Seven (the seven original astronauts), artist Andy Warhol, actors Robert Stack and George Burns, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and political luminaries like the Kennedy family.  But last night, there was a bit of a scene as the inn’s new owner Nayan Patel of Your DC Hotels hosted a private party in celebration of the historic Inn’s 50 year Anniversary.
