Whoops – Virginians should wine all MONTH long!
1 Comment »Speaking of wine (seems to be a habit around here) … did you know that Fairfax County, VA (my old stomping ground) is celebrating "Virginia Wine Month"? Yes indeed, the Commonwealth is one of many places in the U.S. that produces a climate conducive to grape growing and wine making. By the way, below you will see a mention of The Wine Cabinet in Reston’s North Village Shopping Center. If you have an opportunity, please visit – they are great guys, have an outstanding selection, and are so happy to help you make the right choice in your purchase(s). Again, that was my old stomping ground.
Celebrate this ode to the grape all over – especially because it is the 20th Anniversary of Virginia Wine Month! Thank you to Mark Gundersen at Hisoka PR for sending the following to us:
Fairfax County, VA — Now that the summer heat has dissipated, Fairfax County, VA is gearing up for fall with the 20th anniversary celebration of Virginia Wine Month. Fairfax County is the gateway to Virginia wine country, and features an array of wine bars, bistros and lovely hotels, making it an ideal destination to explore locally produced Virginia wines.
“Coined the ‘New Napa,’ Virginia is the fastest growing wine region on the east coast, and is fifth in the nation for number of wine producers,” said Barry Biggar, President and CEO of Visit Fairfax. “Wineries have continued to flourish since the days of Thomas Jefferson’s vineyards at Monticello, boasting wines that have garnered national and international acclaim; and the County of Fairfax has every aspect covered in showcasing the work and achievements of these most esteemed vintners.”
One of Fairfax County’s special events taking place this month is Reston’s Oktoberfest festival on October 10th -11th. The festival will feature traditional fare and a selection of classic German beers and wines provided by The Wine Cabinet.
In addition, Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro in Reston is offering half-priced wine flights during the month of October starting at $12.00 for three varieties. To compare Virginia wines to other renowned international wines, stop into the new Wine House in Fairfax City, home to 500 wines from around the world, where guests can taste and contrast some of the finest selections on the market; or visit The Steak House at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner to enjoy wines from the cellar of award winning Wine Director, Vincent Feraud. Evo Bistro in McLean offers a wide variety of wines by the bottle and glass and features an automated self-serve wine tasting station.
There are over forty wineries within a short drive of Fairfax County, each with its own style and unique offerings, and visitors to Fairfax County can find a range of comfortable and luxurious places to stay after a day of tasting and exploring.
