Wounded Warrior Amputee Celebrity Softball Classic
By Punch Correspondent Darryl Keeton
On Tuesday, the Washington Nationals hosted their second annual Wounded Warrior Amputee Celebrity Softball Classic at Nationals Park. The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) is made up of military veterans and active duty service members from across the country. This is truly “America’s Teamâ€. They feature athletes who have lost limbs while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and are now taking advantage of the latest in prosthetic technology by traveling the country to bring attention to the service and sacrifice of the military’s service members.
The opponents of the WWAST on Tuesday were a hodgepodge of local D.C. celebrities, sports commentators and news anchors. It was no contest as the Warriors pulled away quickly and never looked back. Final score 17-4.
In 2011, the Nationals partnered with the WWAST as part of their military outreach efforts. All season long, Nationals fans may show their support for the softball team by purchasing tickets at www.nationals.com/wwast. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket purchased will be donated to the Washing Nationals WWAST.
