If you’ve ever seen a play and felt moved enough to wonder about the voices behind the writing, you have organizations like Young Playwrights’ Theater to thank.  Since it was founded in 1995, YPT has encouraged thousands of students in the DC area to discover the power and impact of their words through the art of playwriting, and have fostered the creative process of writing as an educational tool for the young people they work with.  This year, their annual Giving Voice Award Gala coincides with the organization’s 20th anniversary, so it’s not surprising that they’re going all out for the celebrations with a Back to the Future-inspired theme for their event, which will honor renowned broadcaster and NPR host Diane Rehm.  Held at the National Press Club on Saturday, March 7th, the gala will feature student performances, a silent auction, plenty of food and drinks, and an opportunity to dance the night away in support of a fantastic cause.  Tickets start at $125, and all proceeds for the evening will go towards programming at YPT – enabling them to continue to inspire the next generation of voices.  Now that’s giving back to the future!
